This is the time to look on the cute, cozy plastic carry-bag, which you are carrying to home after a big purchase. Yeah, you are doing a big mistake which you cannot take back and which will donate to a deadly pollution. The ill-effects are irretrievable and capable of getting out to numerous generations to come.

Plastic is one of the few new chemical materials which create environmental problem. Plastic is the general common term for a wide range of synthetic or semi synthetic organic solid materials fitting for the manufacture of industrial products. These are typically polymers of high molecular weight, and may have other stuffs to advance performances and to decrease costs. Polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene are largely used in the manufacture of plastics.

There are hundreds types of plastic products available in the market. Some of them are plastic bags, coatings, furniture, sheets, fittings, tanks, toys, buckets, sanitary ware, and stationary. These are some which we are using in our everyday life without caring how much dangerous it is.

Industrial revolution was the major cause of plastic spreading. It is one of the major toxic pollutants of our time. Being a non-biodegradable substance, composed of toxic chemicals, plastic pollutes earth, air and water. It produces severe harm to the milieu both during its production and disposal.

Some of the elements of plastic such as benzene and vinyl chloride cause cancer and the other elements are gases and liquid hydrocarbons that poison earth and air.

According to the recent researches the depletion of ozone has increased by about 50% in the 20th century. The uncontrolled deforestation and increased pollution causes the mounting of oxygen content in the atmosphere, which is leading to global warming.

The usage of huge amount of plastic bags directs to the corruption of the land and sea. Even if it buries in the earth also, it won’t decompose but convert the land into worse form as infertile. As in the case of other chemical substances, recycling and disposal of plastic remains as a question to sci-tech. if once the plastic is fabricated, the harm is done forever. Recycling, burning, or land filling, whatever it is, the decomposition of plastic never takes place.

Even if it is recycled, the only thing you doing is recycling the hazard again. It only helps to marketing the recycling of poisonous material once more. Since plastic does not endure bacterial decomposition, land filling using plastic would mean preserving the poison forever.

But here, we are in the modest tech-world; even without compromising to the appearance we can get the piece in biodegradable products.

Now it is the high time for all of us to say NO to plastic and plastic products as a whole in order to save our earth from poisonous gases and global warming. Let us make the earth a better place to live and gift a good and healthy living atmosphere to our future generations. The government in different countries are taking initiative, let us support to this effort without any negotiation. Let us make earth more greener and more healthy.

I always recycle plastic shopping bag. Many several times. They fit the bathroom wastebasket perfectly and are great to keep in a pocket while beachcombing to pick up all the trash on our shores.
However, with so many under the kitchen sink, I try really hard to not get any new ones–boxes, canvas and net bags all fill in when I remember. I am trying to make this 100% of the time.

The plastic bag issue is something that is alltogether real and is not going to be solved by telling people to not use them or to switch to reusable cloth bags, which are going to cost extra money. Real solutions like the young lad whose science experiement resulted in the discovery of microbes that eat plastic (http://news.therecord.com/article/354044) is the type of solutions that are needed for the problem.

Our local grocery store has a plastic bag recycling bin right near the service desk. We bring back extra bags and drop them off there. They are also utilizing biodegradable plastic bags made from cornstarch and other ‘bioplastics’. It is a matter of supply and demand. If you ask, and bring awareness about the issue locally (start a petition, show interest, get your community involved) then the community will provide you with a solution.

I take in my own bags, but EVEN THEN, IT’S LIKE THE GROCERY STORES FORCE BAGS onto you! WHY aren’t THEY Penalized for not using paper?

What do you guys use to line the trash cans in your house? I use plastic bags which go right into the landfill. I thought about changing to paper bags, but then the issue of cutting trees came up. Any idea? By the way one note to the cloth grocery shopping bags. They don’t have to be expensive. Cut the legs of an old pant off, stitch up the cutting line of the the top portion of the pant, then string an old belt around the waisting line loops, and you’ve got yourself a shopping bags that is uniquely yours. Most grocery stores give 5 cent refund to every bag you bring to bag your grocery, not that it’s the reason to bring in your own bags.
